Once an idea for a piece has been sketched out, the form is mocked-up by hand, using plaster and conventional sculpting tools, at approximately 1:10 scale. This process allows for a quick approximation of the final three-dimensional form, and is preferable to computer modeling because it is more connected to the actual sculpting process, and allows for spontaneous changes to the design once it exists in real space.
